Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhongqiu Jie in Chinese, is also called the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival. Mid-Autumn Festival is an important traditional festival in Asia. It is the second most important festival in Hong Kong after Chinese New Year. It is also celebrated by many other Asian countries, such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.
Mid-Autumn Festival traditionally falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which is in September or early October on the Gregorian calendar. As, traditionally, the four seasons each have three lunar months, day 15 of month 8 is “the middle of autumn”, hence the festival’s lunar date.
In Hong Kong, Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration of the rice harvest and many fruits.
Ceremonies are held both to give thanks for the harvest and to encourage the harvest-giving light to return again in the coming year.
It is also a reunion time for families, a little like Thanksgiving. Hong Kong people celebrate it by gathering for dinners, worshiping the moon, lighting paper lanterns, eating mooncakes, etc.
I am very happy that this year my fiancé and I both came to Hong Kong from Melbourne, Australia and Shanghai, China to spend the 2022 Mid-Autumn Festival in Hong Kong.
It is a very happy thing to be able to spend the festive season with the dearest people.
P.S/ My fiancé, WKAR has posted pictures of us celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with our family and I won’t repeat them here. If you are interested, Feel free to browse his Instagram @winewithdrwkarlam
**It has been a long time since I came back to Hong Kong. This time I came back for a long time. I stayed from the Mid-Autumn Festival until my fiancé and I’s birthday in October 2022. ((My fiancé and I are actually very connected, our English names are exactly the same 「This is also the main reason why I haven’t changed the Chinese name of my ID card in Hong Kong. 」and we are both typical Libras…)
When I come back to Hong Kong this time, in addition to going crazy shopping, I can go shopping and eat with my dearest family and friends. Simple is happiness!!
***Warm-hearted wishes for a happy Mid-Autumn filled with all the best things. KaKa
